👩‍🌾 COTTON GINNING UNDERWAY AFTER COOL START 🧑‍🌾 Cotton gins in the Riverina have finally fired up after cool autumn weather delayed picking for growers. Southern Cotton at Whitton is in the midst of processing 130,000 bales at its gin – that’s more than double what it received last season on the back of drought and low water allocations. Southern Cotton’s CEO Kate O’Callaghan said it was a slow start with just four of its 49 growers delivering cotton at the moment. “Most growers are right in the middle of picking, but so far we are seeing yields averaging 12 bales a hectare, which is very hopeful for the region,” she said. “The gin is operating 20 hours a day, five days a week and so far the quality has been…
